Blog Reflection

The author of Safe Haven uses a lot voice when he writes. Every one of his sentences has so much meaning in them. “Deep in her heart, she wasn't sure she deserved to be happy, nor did she believe that she was worthy of someone who seemed...normal.” This quote has so much meaning when you're reading the book. She didn't know if she deserved to be happy because she had to stab her husband to get away and she changed her whole identity so she is falling in love with someone who doesn't even know the real her. She didn't know if she was worthy of someone who didn't have someone coming after her, someone who doesn't have their whole identity changed. Wrong. She does deserve to be loved and be in a relationship. The author knows exactly how to phrase the sentences so that you can put thought behind it and relate it to the rest of the stories. The author uses this a lot more than other authors and I think it really helps add character to the story. I have noticed that he has done this the most in this book then any of his other books that I have read and I think that’s why I enjoy this one the most.

I am getting pretty close to the end of Safe Haven and it is very intense. Alex found out the whole story about Katie and Kevin. He told her to leave, but then chased after her and told her that he will always be safe with him. Alex and Katie are really in love and Alex’s kids both really like Katie. I think the story is going to end with them as family and them getting rid of Kevin in some way shape or form. I cannot stand Kevin and I absolutely love Alex and Katie so I hope they find some way to get rid of him because he deserves it. I can’t wait to read the last little bit to see if I’m right!

1.        Some words or phrases that really showcase my personality as a writer are “helps add character” and “I cannot stand”. These two phrases really showcase my personality as a writer because it shows that I am very opinionated throughout my posts. These also show that that I pay attention to the little things and that’s what I think help adds character or meaning to the book. Without these it wouldn’t capture me as a writer because they wouldn’t show how outspoken and opinionated I am.

2.       One example of diction that I used in my blog post is when I say, “in some way shape or form.” This is an example of informal diction. This is informal diction because I am using a slang phrase that you would use in a very casual conversation. This enhances my writing because the reader can enjoy it more as a conversation then something that they’re being forced to read. An example of syntax that I used in my writing is where I say, “Wrong.” This is showing my sentence length. This is a good example because it is only one word. This helps enhance my writing because it shows my opinion abruptly in the beginning. I like to use this method because then your reader knows your thoughts and opinion without having to go through paragraphs and paragraphs to find it.
