Blog Reflection

The author of Safe Haven uses a lot voice when he writes. Every one of his sentences has so much meaning in them. “Deep in her heart, she wasn't sure she deserved to be happy, nor did she believe that she was worthy of someone who seemed...normal.” This quote has so much meaning when you're reading the book. She didn't know if she deserved to be happy because she had to stab her husband to get away and she changed her whole identity so she is falling in love with someone who doesn't even know the real her. She didn't know if she was worthy of someone who didn't have someone coming after her, someone who doesn't have their whole identity changed. Wrong. She does deserve to be loved and be in a relationship. The author knows exactly how to phrase the sentences so that you can put thought behind it and relate it to the rest of the stories. The author uses this a lot more than other authors and I think it really helps add character to the story. I have noticed that he has done this the most in this book then any of his other books that I have read and I think that’s why I enjoy this one the most.

I am getting pretty close to the end of Safe Haven and it is very intense. Alex found out the whole story about Katie and Kevin. He told her to leave, but then chased after her and told her that he will always be safe with him. Alex and Katie are really in love and Alex’s kids both really like Katie. I think the story is going to end with them as family and them getting rid of Kevin in some way shape or form. I cannot stand Kevin and I absolutely love Alex and Katie so I hope they find some way to get rid of him because he deserves it. I can’t wait to read the last little bit to see if I’m right!

1.        Some words or phrases that really showcase my personality as a writer are “helps add character” and “I cannot stand”. These two phrases really showcase my personality as a writer because it shows that I am very opinionated throughout my posts. These also show that that I pay attention to the little things and that’s what I think help adds character or meaning to the book. Without these it wouldn’t capture me as a writer because they wouldn’t show how outspoken and opinionated I am.

2.       One example of diction that I used in my blog post is when I say, “in some way shape or form.” This is an example of informal diction. This is informal diction because I am using a slang phrase that you would use in a very casual conversation. This enhances my writing because the reader can enjoy it more as a conversation then something that they’re being forced to read. An example of syntax that I used in my writing is where I say, “Wrong.” This is showing my sentence length. This is a good example because it is only one word. This helps enhance my writing because it shows my opinion abruptly in the beginning. I like to use this method because then your reader knows your thoughts and opinion without having to go through paragraphs and paragraphs to find it.

Safe Haven - Post 4

The author of Safe Haven uses a lot voice when he writes. Every one of his sentences has so much meaning in them. “Deep in her heart, she wasn't sure she deserved to be happy, nor did she believe that she was worthy of someone who seemed...normal.” This quote has so much meaning when you're reading the book. She didn't know if she was worthy of someone who didn't have someone coming after her, someone who doesn't have there whole identity changed. The author knows exactly how to phrase the sentences so that you can put thought behind it and relate it to the rest of the stories. Krista Ramsey

The column Living The New Adoption Law is about a girl named Hope Coffee who was adopted and with the new adoption law passed will get to know her parents names and she can then go from there. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/columnists/krista-ramsey/2014/03/08/krista-ramsey-new-adoption-law-ohio/6222347/
The line that really stood out to me was when she said, "The 23-year-old Western Hills resident is one of 400,000 Ohio adoptees who, for the first time in their lives, will have access to the names of their biological parents and the details of their birth." This line has a lot of impact on the reader because first it states just how many adoptees there are in Ohio. This is a very large number and it shows just how many are around you today. Another reason that this line really impacts the reader is because with the words "for the first time in their lives" those are really bold words and it shows that these people could be 40 and for the first time in all there years of living they will be able to access this information. There are not very many complex terms used in this sentence most of them are very casual and informal. The sentence is very long and is broken up using two commas. Most of Krista Rammsey's sentences are this long though. Krista Ramsey's writing style is very unique. She can write any story meaning that she can write stories to make you feel sad, happy, and all different emotions. An example where she writes it in a sad way, "You can't help but worry what all that screen time is doing to his posture, social skills and grades." This is sad because it is so true. An example of where the mood is lightened is when she wrote, "Whatever the score of the game, they'll both look like winners." This lightens the mood because she is kind o making a joke but it is also very nice and brings up the mood with the playful laughter used. The last quote I will use is another one that can be uses to lighten the mood, "In 2012, with encouragement from her adoptive parents, she went so far as to consult an attorney and have papers drawn up to allow her and her birth mother to release contact information to each other." This makes you happy because you can see that she has support from her family and courage to do things. Krista can capture any emotion with her very unique writing style.   The first question that I would ask Krista Rammsey is how she finds these stories? How can she find all these stories that are so big like this but aren't on the news. The second question that I would ask is what kinds of questions do you ask them when you're interviewing them? The last question that I would ask her is how do you get the quotes from the professionals like in your story about the need for better vision?

Safe Haven - Post 3

In the book Safe Haven there is a lot going on right now. I am to the part that Katie has ran away and has ended in North Carolina. She has met a man named Alex. Alex is a widow and has two children named Josh and Kristen. None of them know that she has a husband who she has run away from and that she completely changed her identity. She also has a friend that she met there named Jo. She is really helping Katie get used to her new life, but she doesn't even know any of Katie's past. Her husband Kevin is doing all sorts of things to look for Katie. He is a detective so he is pulling all sorts of moves just to try and find her. These parts are very intense and I am sure it will get more intense as I read even further into the book.

I predict that in the book Alex and Katie will start to talk and have a thing. Then I think that Jo might come in and try and take Alex. I think this because Jo seems to know a lot about Alex that someone who just knows him from living near him would know. She could just know this about Alex because of living near him, but I feel like there is or was something there. I am excited to find out was is going to come next and I wonder if it's going to be as intense or more intense.

Safe Haven - Post 2

In the book Safe Haven not much has happen in the book since I read last. The plot is sort of staying the same. From what I just read I think that my predictions that she is going to leave and try to get away from her husband and her past is correct. I am going to keep my same prediction of what is going to happen next because so far mine have been correct.

Katie is a very independent growing young lady. You can see that she is really independent because first she stabbed her husband to save her life. This takes bravery and confidence to be able to fight for your life like she did. I really admire this about Katie and i hope she keeps her confident and independent personality through the whole book. Kevin is very controlling and rude. He tried to kill Katie when she was doing nothing wrong because of his alcohol issues. He was very controlling and abusive towards Katie. I hope that Kevin changed through the novel. I can't wait to see how all the characters develop through the book. I have feeling Kevin will always stay that way.

Safe Haven - Post 1

The book that I have chosen to read Safe Haven. I just started the book so I don't know much about the book, but I did meet some of the characters. The first character in my book that I met was a girl named Katie. Katie is married to a man named Kevin. Kevin is a detective so he is involved with the law. Kevin drinks way to much and is a very aggressive and abusive husband. katie didn't like his actions, but delt with them for awhile. One night she ran away from him because he was very absuive and the only way to save her life was to stab him.

I think that next in the book Katie will go to another town and try to start a new life there. I feel like the husband may come back and look for her because she just stabbed him, but didn't actually kill him. He is probably very upset and mad at her and with his aggressiveness he will probably not react in a good way. I think that I am going to really enjoy this book because I have read other Nicholas Sparks books and really liked them. I also liked a lot of his movies that I have seen so I do think this will be an exception. This is a link for the movie and the book and movie seem very alike so far. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj6i_Z1Srsw
