b. Hazel Grace Landcaster started as being a very sheltered, shy, but still confident girl with cancer. Once she met Augustus Waters she turned into a very mature, confident, stronger person. The way Hazel changed from meeting other characters is it helped her come out of her shell and mature, be able to trust, and be even stronger then she already was. Hazel was a very complex character to try to figure out because she had cancer and was different from the other kids so it made her more complex. She kept the plot moving by breaking out of her shell and saying things from her point of view which was not only just another point of view, but also someone are age and someone who is sick and looks upon life differently. Hazel’s opinions, stories, point of views, quotes and much more helped us come up with a message, theme that had been sent through the whole entire story. An example of her point of view is when it says, “…’you give money to a company in exchange for the chance to acquire YET MORE CANCER.’” (page 20) Normally we think oh my gosh why would you smoke it’s gross and smells disgusting, but Hazel thinks more along the lines of cancer and how it can affect someone’s life.
